When police arrived Tuesday night, things got more violent.

59-year-old Reed Tardy was in a tent near the vehicle just north of the Slough Bridge when officers arrived.

When they approached, Tardy came out of the tent with fists swinging.

He had a small screwdriver in his fists and officers say he was violently resisting arrest.

An officer then used a taser on him and Tardy was taken in to custody.

One officer was scratched by the screwdriver, but there were no major injuries.

Tardy was booked into the Humboldt County Jail for resisting arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, criminal threats and vandalism.
