Fortuna makes changes to draft cannabis ordinance

FORTUNA – City council members, the planning commission and residents of Fortuna met Monday night to discuss cannabis regulations within their city.

Fortuna’s draft ordinance was already known for being restrictive – prohibiting commercial cannabis and medical cannabis deliveries, as well as requiring permits and inspections for personal grows.

At the meeting, attendees debated whether or not to allow medical marijuana deliveries.

In the end, commercial cannabis and deliveries were decided not to be allowed, however, residents can share small amounts of home grown marijuana with others.

Personal grows will only be allowed within special, separate structures, but onlookers must not be able to see or smell the cultivation.

You’ll be able to apply for cultivation permits through the Fortuna Police Department – however, the permit fee is still up in the air.
