ARCATA- Local business leaders and community members have come together to save Humboldt State Athletics.

Its no secret that football is on the chopping block. It’s an expensive sport but has a roster of nearly 100 players that come from all over to play football. This season, the 4-0 Lumberjacks are ranked 17th in the nation.

To keep athletics and the program alive, $500,000 needs to be raised for at least five years. The deadline is the end of October. If that figure is met, HSU president Lisa Rossbacher will provide matching funds from state general funding and other sources. It’s a goal that the Save HSU Athletics group plans to reach.
