MCKINLEYVILLE- McKinleyville varsity football will not be on the field for a third consecutive week. The last two games were because of injuries. But this week, the Panthers will miss their homecoming parade and game against Fortuna because of something they did off the field.

McKinleyville High School principal Nic Collart said some members of the Panthers varsity football team made a poor decision. Last Monday, it was discovered there were things written in the football locker room that were racial and homophobic. Collart said the actions were damaging to students, staff and the community.

Collart is thankful for the students who came forward to address the issue and asked that the community come support the junior varsity team who will play Friday night at 7:30.

It’s not known if McKinleyville will be able to return to action next week against Del Norte or what will happen to the players involved in the incident.
