One dead in 19,000 acre Redwood Complex Fire

MENDOCINO – A State of Emergency is declared in Mendocino County, as 19,000 acres have been scorched so far in the Redwood Complex Fire.

At least one life has been claimed as a result of the fire.

Multiple structures have been destroyed and more are at risk.

The fire started in the Redwood Valley area and traveled quickly causing evacuations.

Shelters are open at the Ukiah High School, Willits High School and the Coyote Valley Casino event center.

Large animals can take shelter at the Ukiah Fair Grounds and small animals can go to the Ukiah Animal Shelter.

Highway 101 is closed between Willits and Ukiah until further notice.

One person has already been arrested for attempting to burglarize an evacuated home.
