Preventing package theft during the holidays

EUREKA – It’s holiday shopping season which means package theft is on the rise.
Eureka Police Department says they typically see a spike in mail and package theft from homes this time of year, so officers urge you to take precautions before deliveries arrive.
Use a tracking number to follow your item so you know when it will be delivered. Be there to pick it up, or ask a neighbor or family member for help. Also consider sending items to your workplace, if allowed.
EPD says taking these precautions won’t always prevent you from becoming a target but can help to deter thieves.
EPD Public Information Officer Brittany Powell said, “Without any kind of surveillance or a witness, it’s going to be hard to get your package back so if someone sees something definitely call us because maybe we can track down a suspect.”
