Carr Fire scorches 6,773 acres, Highway 299 may re-open late Thursday morning

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – Upwards of 6,700 acres of land is scorched as of Wednesday by the growing Carr Fire in Shasta County.

As of Wednesday evening, firefighters are calling the Carr Fire just 10% contained.

Evacuations remain in place for residents due to the fire burning near Whiskeytown.

Highway 299 is still closed, however, Caltrans District 2 says it’s possible the roadway will be re-opened by late Thursday morning.

SR-36 and SR-3 have been used as detours, but have truck and bus length restrictions.

The wildland fire was originally caused by a vehicle malfunction.

Over 1,300 firefighting personnel remain on scene as of Wednesday night.
