Mendocino Complex Fire, second largest in California History

Mendocino County, Ca., (KIEM)- Over night the Mendocino Complex fire explodes, becoming the second largest inferno in state history. Tonight, it’s barely 10,000 acres smaller than the Thomas Fire. That last year reduced more than 1,000 structures to ash in Santa Barbra and Ventura Counties.
273,664 acres. That’s the current size of the combined Ranch and River fires. Twelve homes have been damaged, 75 destroyed and the fire is just 30% contained. Fire crews hope to have the blaze under control by August 15th, but for now the Ranch fire continues to spread to the north and south east. A lot of crews are on the ground in threatened communities for structure protection. The hope is to transfer resources from the 58% contained river fire to the ranch incident.
