EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – The state of California is hoping to educate every neighborhood of the importance of trees.

From now till the 14th is California’s Arbor week. Here in Eureka, volunteers are kicking off the festivities by planting 5 Catalina Ironwoods in Hammond Park. In 2011 the California State Assembly and Senate approved Resolution ACR 10, which recognizes trees as a valuable economic asset.

Between Keep Eureka Beautiful and Redwood Community Action Agency about 12,000 trees have been planted.
