CHP investigating incident after an altercation on State Route 299

Humboldt County, Ca., (KIEM) A black Range Rover and white Chevrolet Suburban were involved in an altercation on State Route 299 west of Willow Creek, Monday afternoon.

Witnesses report that a person in the range rover had stopped and allegedly fired a gun at the occupants of the suburban.

CHP officers and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, located one of the vehicles and conducted a felony stop after both vehicles, officials say, attempted to flee eastbound towards Willow Creek.

The driver of the range rover 31-year-old Christopher Canfield of Arcata, stopped his car and was arrested.

Officers located and seized a loaded handgun from canfield’s vehicle, the range rover.

Canfield was booked on several charges, including attempted murder and possession of a loaded firearm by a convicted felon.

The suburban was later located and stopped on Highway 299 in Trinity County.

The alleged injured victim was transported to Trinity Hospital in Weaverville.
