Abandoned Jacobs Junior High School may soon be up for sale

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) –After many years of decay and discussion, finally a decision on what to do with the abandoned Jacobs Junior High School.

At Thursday nights meeting the Board Members of Eureka City Schools have voted to sell. Now, the board and Superintendent Fred Van Vleck will work to decide if abatement and demolition is more affordable than selling the property as is. The majority in attendance tonight aware, the district needs money, yet the potential removal of the blight is reason enough to celebrate.

According to Superintendent Fred Van Vleck multiple agencies have shown interest in purchasing the nearly 15 acre property. Those include the California Highway Patrol and the City of Eureka to name a few. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as this story develops.
