McKinleyville, Ca., (KIEM) A McKinleyville man is behind bars and one suspect is on the run… After the pair allegedly burglarized a willow creek home, before leading police on a high-speed chase.
Sunday afternoon at around 12:30, Humboldt County Sheriff Deputies responded to a residence on Three Creeks Road for a reported burglary.
The sheriff’s office said two men, one identified as 26-year-old Trayten Hunt, allegedly cut the locks of a gate and stole a generator from an area home.
When confronted by the homeowner, officials said the men allegedly shot at the victim before fleeing the scene in a red Toyota Tacoma truck.
The suspects led police on a high-speed pursuit. But the driver lost control of the truck and crashed on Old Dolly Varden Road near Lord Ellis Summit.
The suspects exited the truck and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area where officers located hunt.
One deputy sustained a minor head injury during the pursuit.
But deputies did find a firearm that one of the men allegedly discarded.
Hunt was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County jail on multiple charges. But the driver of the vehicle is still at large.
