North Coast trade academy looks to expand

In an effort to increase the number of skilled trade workers, the Humboldt County Office of Education is getting students connected with contractors.

According to the department’s trade school, there is a shortage of workers nationwide. It’s being called the “skills gap” where the current generation is getting ready to retire and there is no one to fill the shoes. For a little over a year, North Coast students have been invited to visit job sites and learn basic skills as part of the trade academy. A member of the academy, says now is the time for businesses to get involved.
