Runners take the Streets Wearing Crabs on Heads in Fish out of Water 5K

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – Runners wear crabs on their heads, in the Fish out of Water 5k Fun Run.

Participants waited for the countdown to one to take off from Healthsport by the Bay. The entire course was a figure eight, runners ran along the Eureka Waterfront and the Humboldt Bay Trail. Its all apart of Eureka’s Salt and Fog Fish Festival.

Our very own Chief Meteorologist Dan Ramno and Meteorologist Eric McCormick were out there to join in on the 5k.

Two runners that we spoke to had fun getting creative with their costumes.

“I thought it would be a nice sunshade on this beautiful sunny day. Its Multipurpose,” said Sarah Grabeal, one of the runners in the 5K.

“I thought it looked really cool. It wasn’t cool to run in, it was really really hot,” said Corey Grabeal a participant in the Fish out of Water 5k Fun Run.

“Its just awesome to have something like this in Eureka. Where we have a fun race down by the beautiful Bay, and we get to dress-up in costumes,” said Sarah.

This year was the first time the fish out of water 5k fun run took place.
