Coast Guard Humboldt Bay to host open house Saturday

Samoa, Ca., (KIEM) August is U.S. Coast Guard Month in the City of Eureka and to celebrate, the Coast Guard Humboldt Bay branch will host an open house.

Coast Guard personnel invites the public onto their base in Samoa to meet and greet with the men and women who conduct daily operations in the Humboldt Bay area.

At the open house, Coast Guard helicopters and boats, as well as emergency vehicles from local response agencies, will be present.

There is also a search-and-rescue demonstration scheduled for noon.

Earlier this month, the Coast Guard celebrated its birthday and was declared an entire month of recognition by the city of Eureka.

B.M.C.M Officer Christopher Hinote of Coast Guard Humboldt Bay said there is no better way to commemorate over 200 years of service.

“It’s a good feeling, there’s a number of Coast Guard cities throughout the whole United States and it just gives that extra special little touch to be a part of a community that recognizes the Coast Guard,” said Hinote. “It’s important because it gives us an opportunity to show the community what we do day in and day out from the search and rescue, to the training.”

The Coast Guard Humboldt Bay Open House will be at the Coast Guard Headquarters in Samoa on August 10th from 10 AM to 3 PM.
