Ryder Stapp Arraigned, Enters Not Guilty Plea

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — Fields Landing resident man was in court for his arraignment and entered a plea at the Humboldt County Courthouse. 29-year-old Ryder Stapp plead not guilty to charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, felony drunk driving, and hit-and-run. His attorney entered the plea for him. Stapp chose not to speak.

Prosecutors requested bail be increased to $195,000, but was denied. The judge gave a list of conditions for his continued release on bail. Stapp also waived his right to be present at future hearings.

The District Attorney’s office filed the charges last week. According to investigators, back on June 28th Stapp drove his Ford F-250 truck at a high rate of speed into a house on Humboldt Hill, killing 64-year-old Robert Beland and injuring his wife. They said Stapp’s blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit.

Family and friends of Beland chose not to speak with Redwood News after the arraignment. An intervention hearing is set for October 8th, and a preliminary examination is set for October 29th.
