U.S. Coast Guard Humboldt Bay Hold Open House

Samoa, Ca. (KIEM) – August is U.S. Coast Guard month here in Eureka and to celebrate, the U.S. Coast Guard Humboldt Bay held an open house Saturday. The event was free and open to the public.

Those that attended had the chance to check out the coast guard station, take a tour of one of their helicopters or boats, and there were also some games and face painting for the kiddos. Other emergency agencies came out to support, including California Highway Patrol, Eureka Police, Cal Fire, Arcata Fire, and City Ambulance.

According to one coast guard officer, it’s important to hold events like this as a way for the community to come out and learn what the coast guard does and how they can protect residents.

According to U.S. Coast Guard Humboldt Bay, they expect that nearly 1,000 people came out to Saturday’s event.
