Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — A potentially dangerous situation led to the evacuation of dozens of guests at a local hotel as fire crews responded to reports of smoke and flames. Humboldt bay fire responded shortly after 9 pm thursday to the best western bayshore inn off of broadway.

It was upgraded to a commercial 2 alarm and all h-b-f resources were on scene…there was also mutual aid from Arcata, Samoa, and Loleta. Fire crews believe the fire had started in the sauna area. The heating unit overheated and resulted in smoke and flames inside of the walls.

The entire hotel was evacuated, but no injuries were reported. There was roughly $20,000 in damages. PG&E crews secured power and gas to the building, and guests were allowed to return to their rooms safely.
