Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — This holiday weekend, California Highway Patrol is joining forces with five other western states to crackdown on impaired driving. CHP hopes high visibility enforcement will promote safer driving.

The maximum enforcement period here in California will be from 6:01 pm on Friday August 30th to 11:59 pm Monday September 2nd. According to CHP, during last year’s maximum enforcement period 36 people were killed on California roads and nearly 1,100 were arrested for DUI.

CHP reminds all drivers to not drive if you are going to drink, always wear your seat belt, and avoid distractions behind the wheel.
