S.T.D. Cases are on the Rise in Humboldt County

Sexually Transmitted Diseases continue to rise in Humboldt County.

The state department of public health says the rates of S.T.D.’s are reaching epidemic levels.

The state is allocating an estimated $57 million to be distributed to local health departments but it’s unclear how much is coming to Humboldt County.

Last year there was a surge in both H.I.V. and Syphilis cases.

So far this year there are more than 500 cases of Chlamydia alond with over 180 cases of Gonorrhea. Also reported are six new H.I.V. cases and over 30 cases of Syphilis.

Public health officials are urging safer sex practices especially with those ages 15-24.
