Humboldt State University Creates $4,000 Scholarship for All Local Freshmen

McKINLEYVILLE, Ca. (KIEM) – At McKinleyville high school a handful of seniors had the honor of accepting a $4,000 scholarship to attend Humboldt State University this coming fall.

The new Humboldt First Scholarships is helping North Coast students pursue a 4-year degree while staying close to home.

This scholarship is guaranteed to every new local freshman of $1,000 annually to offset the cost of tuition, books, and other expenses.

The scholarship will automatically renew every year for up to 4 years as long as the student is making satisfactory academic progress.

McKinleyville’s Principal, Nic Collat says he is really proud of the students at McKinleyville High School for all the hard work and dedication they’ve put into their education.

This scholarship will provide students with the support they need to be successful at h-s-u and achieve their dream of graduating from college.

The Humboldt First Scholarship is guaranteed to students graduating from high school in Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino and Trinity counties who enroll at HSU starting in the fall of 2020.

The scholarship was created with $250,000 in donations from HSU Alumni and other community members.
