Prop. 13 on Ballot for 2020

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) -A new proposition on the upcoming California ballot would allocate more money to schools across the state.  We’re talking about Prop 13. It’s a 15 billion dollar bond geared towards school modernization and construction projects.

To break it down even further- 9 billion dollars would go towards kindergarten through 12th grade schools and 2 billion dollars each for community colleges and the CSU and UC college systems.

A supporter of Prop. 13, Governor Newsom, says the money would be focused primarily on health and safety issues such as mold, asbestos, and other issues that come with older, aging facilities.

Here locally, if passed the bond would help fund school construction projects, like repairing the damaged culvert that runs beneath Albee stadium and Clooney Field.

According to Eureka City Schools Superintendent, these state matched funds are vital and local schools rely on them to get projects off the ground. Proposition 13 will appear on the November 3rd, 2020 ballot.
