New Phone Scam Claims To Be Sheriff’s Office

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – A new phone scam is targeting Humboldt County residents.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office says that the new scam claims to be a sergeant or lieutenant from their office and tells the victim that they have multiple warrants out for their arrest.

The scammer is able to give detailed information about the victim, and calling back the scam phone number brings the victim to a phone tree resembling the one the Sheriff’s Office uses.

The scammer instructs the victim to pay $2,000 in electric vouchers with the threat of immediate arrest if the victim doesn’t comply.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the public that they will never call and threaten arrest if you do not pay a fine.

If you receive a scam call contact the Sheriff’s Office at 707-445-7251
