EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – A Fields Landing man who killed another man while driving drunk is sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Back on June 28th, 25 year-old Ryder Stapp was driving under the influence of alcohol- nearly three times the legal limit-and smashed his truck into 64 year-old Bob Beland’s Humboldt Hill home killing him while he was in bed. Stapp was driving his truck at a reported 86 miles an hour, while the speed limit in the area is only 35 miles per hour.
Stapp admitted to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run. He received the maximum of 10 years for manslaughter and one year for hit-and-run causing injury. As part of a plea agreement, Stapp could be eligible for parole after five years.
Stapp was taken into custody following his sentencing.
