EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)-Humboldt County District Attorney Maggie Fleming issued a consumer alert Friday regarding price gouging in the wake of the Coronavirus.

The act is illegal and occurs when essential goods and services are priced ten percent higher during an emergency declaration.

The law applies to food, emergency supplies, medical supplies, and motor fuels. The penalty for this crime could land a person in county jail and a $10,000 fine.

If community members witness this act they can contact the District Attorney’s Office.
