Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office continues to work day in and day out to keep the community safe during the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, according to Sheriff Honsal, compared to previous months crime is down. The biggest decline they’ve seen, moving violations.

The jail population is down too. Before Covid-19 made its way to the North Coast, the correctional facility was just about at maximum capacity. That number has dropped by almost half to 230 inmates.

There are protocols in place that require every inmate coming into the jail to be quarantined for 14 days before being release into the general population. While they have quarantined a number of inmates upon arrival, there have been no positive cases, but HCSO is prepared if that were to change in the future.

The Sheriff’s Office is working to get all of their services up and running, like live scan, as soon as possible.
