Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — The total case counts don’t give a total picture of where we are at in the county when it comes to covid-19, according to county health officer Dr. Frankovich.

Things have become even more complicated after the CDC added 6 new symptoms commonly seen in covid patients. The new testing facility set to open in Eureka will address this. The goal is to be able to test people with mild only symptoms, and eventually, people who are showing no symptoms at all.

While surveillance testing for every North Coast residents is still a ways away, as of Monday, public health has already began screening high-risk individuals like doctors, nurses, and first responders. More widespread testing, as well as the construction of an alternative care sight, are all part of the Governor’s guidelines for reopening, but there are still a few things that need to be addressed.

Despite being on the road to getting things back to normal, Dr. Frankovich wants to remind residents we aren’t out of the woods just yet.
