EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)-Restaurants that have been certified by the Humboldt county emergency operations center can begin dine-in services as early as this Friday.

“When we get the news last night when we was in here, the owner of the restaurant says we open Friday,” said restaurant worker Teresa Livingston. “So we get so excited.”

Excited to get the restaurant ready for guests to dine-in.

“We have the sanitizer for the any customers, we have the small ones for all the employees. We are going to try to practice the social distancing,” Livingston said. “We are marking all the tables, so that they’re six feet apart.  We had to sanitize all the time, tables the chairs, everything.”

Local residents will now have the option to take-out or to dine-in which according, dine-in creates an ambiance take-out can’t, according to Livingston

“It’s so different because you have time to meet people, to know where they come from,” she said. “So it’s more exciting to know more people.”

Livingston says business has been steady since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

“They been good, like that with to go’s but we prefer to open that way we can make more money.”

Kim Gibbs is a Eureka resident, she says she has some concerns but is looking forward to the opportunity to dine-in again.

“Feels great, I think it’s time that we open but I mean it is kind of scary, as long as I sit in a corner over there I could probably eat. But you know I think it’s good that we open up.”

Only restaurants that have been certified by the Humboldt County emergency operations center can begin dine-in services beginning Friday.

Restaurants interested in resuming dine-in services should submit a reopening plan.

Restaurants that have that have already received certification are cleared for dine-in with  safety modifications in place.

Which is good news for both Gibbs and Livingston.

“I have a very friendly husband that’s he says hi to everybody,” said Gibbs. “I know he would like that, I like it too.”

“That’s what we want everybody feel comfortable to come here and have dinner, or lunch, or drinks,” said Livingston.

The Emergency Operation Center reopening plan certification process was designed to ensure facilities had measures in place to limit transmission of COVID-19.

So far, 650 businesses have been certified.
