Sequoia Humane Society adoption numbers decrease, applications increase

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – The Sequoia Humane Society is looking to reopen in the next few weeks.

The Humane Society is currently closed to the public, but adoptions are available by appointment. They take place in the parking lot outside to accommodate for social distancing.

A lack of volunteers has made operations more challenging, but the Humane Society is able to continue by using social media and online applications for a no contact process. The Humane Society is also unable to rely on events for funding, but donations have helped the organization greatly.

The Humane Society has seen a decrease in adoptions due to social distancing, as the shelter is unable to handle as many adoptions in one day. However, adoption applications have increased threefold.
