HCSO warns residents of 3 phone scams making the rounds

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of three new phone scams.

The scammers are claiming to be from Cloney’s Pharmacy, the Publishers Clearing House, and a Social Security investigator.

To help protect yourself from fraud, HCSO says to refrain from sending money or personal information to an unexpected request. Do online searches to see if others have reported the company or phone number. Don’t believe your caller ID, as scammers can fake the numbers with technology. Talk to someone you trust about the situation before you make any decisions. Lastly, don’t rely on personal information, as access to it is easy for a scammer to uncover online.
