HCSO launches investigation after human remains located off Highway 96

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — An investigation is launched after the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office locates a deceased man off of Highway 96.

Monday afternoon shortly after 2:45, HCSO was contacted by the U.S. Forest Service and CHP about a possible traffic accident over an embankment with a vehicle in the Klamath River on Highway 96 near Milepost Marker 34.

Deputies learned that prior to their arrival, emergency personnel had located a deceased adult male about 400 feet down the embankment. Only one victim, the deceased, was located and recovered.

Deputies have determined this death to be suspicious, and it is now being investigated by the sheriff’s criminal investigations division. This is an active investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact HCSO.
