Evacuation orders expanded near Ruth Lake in response to the Hopkins Fire

RUTH, Calif. (KIEM) — The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has expanded evacuation orders for surrounding communities near Ruth Lake as the Hopkins Fire continues to move in a westerly direction.

An evacuation order has been issued for the communities of Zenia, Kettenpom, Hettenshaw Valley, and all areas south of Ruth. Officials highly encourage residents to evacuate due to high winds and erratic fire activity.

The following areas are under evacuation warnings: Ruth, Ruth Lake, Mad River, Forest Glen, and Post Mountain. Those who require additional time to evacuate and those with pets and livestock are advised to leave now.

A temporary evacuation point has been established at Mad River High School at 600 Van Duzen Road.
