Eureka man dead after colliding with pickup truck

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-One man is dead, after his vehicle collided with a pickup truck on Herrick Avenue near the Eureka Municipal Golf Course just after 7 o’clock Wednesday morning.

Officer Kyle Phillips with California Highway Patrol was one of two CHP officers on scene.

“Gentleman, driving this direction towards the house, came down, missed the pole and ended up colliding with a truck right in the driveway,” he said. “And, unfortunately he lost his life.

“At this time we can’t tell any speed, there were no tire friction marks, he may have fallen asleep and gone straight off the roadway, that’s what it appears, occurred.”

The victim has been identified as 61-year-old, Timothy Mctague of Eureka.  There was no passenger in the vehicle.

Phillips has some advice for motorists.

“Please don’t drink and drive, wear your seat belt, that was definitely a factor in the loss of life here, and just watch the road, pay attention to the road,” he said.

The crash remains under investigation.
