KLAMATH, Calif. (KIEM) – The Yurok Tribe recently purchased land in Orick as a part of a long-term plan to create more jobs and a more resilient economy in the region.
The nine-acre Shoreline Market purchase is located in the center of the tribe’s ancestral territory.
The Yurok Tribe plans to build a fuel mart, laundry mat and a tribal government office.
The project will involve construction of a two story, approximately 6,000 square foot building that will be partially solar powered.
Yurok Chairman Joseph L. James says this project is a big win because it will not only provide more services to local residents, but also new employment opportunities.
