State grid operator issues flex alert, PG&E asking customers to conserve energy

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — PG&E is asking customers to conserve energy Thursday after the California state grid operator issues a statewide flex alert.

High temperatures and an expected increase in electricity demand led to the flex alert, which runs from 3 pm to 10 pm Thursday.

Here are some tips from PG&E on how you can cut your power use. When it’s cooler outside, try to bring cool air in, close your window shades to block sunlight, cool down with a fan, clear the area around your AC so it can operate better, and keep your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher, health permitting.

Right now, there are no plans for any rotating power outages.
