HSU women’s soccer, basketball promote social change

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) – Two Humboldt State University teams are doing much more than just preparing for the upcoming athletics season.

The women’s soccer team made bracelets in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The team asked for donations and awarded donors with a bracelet. Head Coach Grant Landy challenged his team to stand up as a group against racial injustice and the team found a creative way to get involved.

The women’s basketball team joined the soccer team in calling for change. The team will hold a virtual 5K run, walk, or bike ride called, “A Race for Change.” The event will begin on October 15 and continue through October 18.

All proceeds from both fundraisers go to the African American Center for Academic Excellence.
