English Express holds its last fundraiser of the month

FORTUNA Calif. (KIEM)- A non-profit organization created to fill a void in the community held a fundraiser today at El Buen Gusto market in Fortuna.

English Express is a program that not only helps non-English speaking people learn English, it also helps those who are in the program get connected to free Humboldt county resources.

This fundraiser was held to fund the program, which has been faced with COVID-19 financial struggles.

“There’s a number of reasons why this program is so important. When you come to a new community, a new country where the language is not familiar and maybe you have no connections, security is very important,” said Hytken. “Food security, health security maybe you need information about education for your children. So, these are connections that we provide for our students in addition to learning the language of their new home.”

Hytken says it’s never too late to donate.
