Cyclist succumbs to injuries after hit by van

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-At about 10:35 Saturday morning Eureka Police and Humboldt Bay Fire initially responded to an injury collision involving a motorists and cyclist at West Wabash Avenue and Broadway Street in Eureka.

Patrol Officer Timothy Marsolan with Eureka PD was on scene.

“It was quickly determined upon the arrival of the first officer’s that it was a fatal collision, right now it’s still an ongoing investigation, so the details and the cause are still unknown at this time,” said Marsolan. “However, all involved parties including witnesses and the driver are fully cooperating and making this investigation go smoothly as it has been.”

According to witnesses, a white van was headed toward Broadway Street while on West Wabash when, they say, a bicyclist darted in front of the man driving the white van.

The bicyclist ended up partially under the van – the name of the deceased has not been released.

This is an ongoing investigation.
