Red Salmon Complex Fire has burned for three months

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – Three months ago, on July 27, the Red Salmon Complex Fire started when lightning struck.  Now on October 27th, it is 78% contained, and has burned nearly 144,000 acres.

Helicopters are being used for bucket drops in areas that are too risky to put crews on the ground.

The California Incident Management Team will transfer command of the complex fact to the Six Rivers, Shasta-Trinity, and Klamath National Forests Fire Management Teams in cooperation with the Hoopa Tribe. The U.S. Forest Service is sending out a burned area emergency response team to the Red Salmon Complex Fire.

It will be coordinating with local governments; including Humboldt and Trinity Counties to assess the threat of flooding, rock slides, and falling trees.

The team is made up of scientists, engineers, and recreation specialists.  The information is then passed on to private home and other land owners to find out if they qualify for insurance coverage.
