True North Organizing Network set up a hotline to report ICE activity

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)- The True North Organizing Network in Eureka has set up a rapid response hotline to report any Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in Humboldt County.

During the 2018 elections, voters approved making the county a sanctuary area for undocumented immigrants.

The purpose of the new hotline is to address fear and anxiety from potential increased immigration enforcement.

The hotline provides assistance if anyone were to see ICE agents on the street, knocking on people’s doors or detaining anyone.

“It is fundamental for us as immigrants but also for you as citizens to know that because you know all families are mixed,” said Brenda Perez, a member of Centro Del Pueblo. “We have families with different statuses and that doesn’t change the fact that we are all human and there are no illegal human beings.”

The rapid response hotline makes it easier for people to advocate for those who are caught up in ice raids.

The number for that hotline is (707) 282-5226.
