Michael Caleb Reed is in custody after high speed chase through Eureka leads to a traffic collision involving an EPD vehicle

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — 35-year-old Michael Caleb Reed is in custody after leading law enforcement on a high speed pursuit that led to a traffic collision that injured two people.

It all started just before 10 am Wednesday morning when Eureka Police responded to a disturbance at the Holiday Inn. The suspect, a wanted felon, left the scene, and EPD began a pursuit southbound on Broadway.

During that pursuit, a gray pickup truck and an EPD patrol car collided at the intersection of Broadway and Henderson Street. The occupant of the truck was examined and treated for her injuries and EPD Officer, Cameron Hooks sustained moderate to major injuries. He is now in stable condition awaiting surgery.

The suspect continued southbound on Broadway with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office continuing the pursuit. HCSO says the suspect was taken into custody after his vehicle was disabled by a spike strip on Highway 101 south of Jordan Road.
