EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-War Veterans were treated to free admission at the Sequoia Park Zoo
Wednesday – to honor their service to the military.

Education Curator Christine Noel with the Sequoia Zoo says, it’s the least they can do for those that have done so much for the United States.

“Were always looking for ways to support our community and make sure the zoo is accessible to our local families, so on Veterans Day we just like to extend an extra thank you,” Noel said.

The holiday – originally called Armistice Day – was created to commemorate the end of world war one.

Families came out on this veteran’s day to enjoy the milder temperatures and time with each other, including long-time married couple, Raymond and Kathy Lovell.

“Veterans Day is special, it gives me a chance to look back on my life where I’ve come this far and appreciate the things that we have,” said Raymond.

“The other thing is, it’s nice to see, especially for the Vietnam War Veterans – which the nation is recognizing their service now and stepping forward and having special things like this where we can come to the zoo for free and enjoy the day.”

The Sequoia Park Zoo is open from 10 a.m. To 5 P.M Tuesday through Sunday – and closed on Mondays.
