Parent reaction to positive Covid-19 cases at Fortuna High School

FORTUNA, Calif. (KIEM) — Fortuna High School parents were notified last Thursday of the first positive Covid-19 case in a student through a recorded message sent out by Principal Clinton Duey.

Some parents say we have to learn to live with Covid-19, but also acknowledge the importance of making sure safety protocols are in place like wearing a mask, social distancing, and not getting large groups of people together.

Sheriff William Honsal is a parent of an FHS student and is confident in how the school is handling the situation.

“I think the way they structured their classes and keeping the kids in cohorts have done an amazing job. The CDC has often said, kids need to be in school. It is still their protocol, and so I believe in that. I think we have to do it and we have to do it safely,” Honsal says.
