County campgrounds closed due to uptick in COVID-19 cases, Parks and trails open for day use

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)-Humboldt County Officials announced that all of its campgrounds will be closed, beginning Wednesday, due to the rise in CORONAVIRUS cases.

All parks and trails are open for day use, except for freshwater park which is closed until April, but could longer.

Day use hours are posted at each park but there may be parking limitations.

Reservations for 2021 are not being taken at this time, health officials aren’t sure when group gatherings will be allowed again.

Del Norte County campgrounds are open for use, according to a recording on the park department’s phone line.

State Park Ranger Keven Harder says, state campgrounds are also open but, that can change at a moment’s notice.

“State parks will close camping if we reach the threshold of 15% of capacity in the ICU beds,” he said.

Harder adds, they are not taking reservations at this time, but will honor existing reservations.
