Trucker’s Christmas Parade donates $30,000 to the Boys and Girls Club

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – Rex and friends’ trucker’s Christmas parade is donating $30,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods.

The Trucker’s Christmas Parade raised $15,000 from the parade sponsors including Mercer-Fraser Co., Shafers Ace Hardware, and Valley Pacific Petroleum. Additionally, they received a separate donation of $15,000 from their sponsor, Mercer-Fraser Co.

Despite the rain and the COVID-19 pandemic, they experienced an increase in participation as thousands of spectators came to watch the parade.

There were over 80 entries to the truck competition. Zerlang and Zerlang Marine Services won 1st place and Porter and Sons Painting won 2nd place in the small truck division. The winners of the parade received trophies that were designed out of scraps by Linda Wise from Recology Humboldt County.

Humboldt County’s first district supervisor, Rex Bohn, says, “This is such an important part of these children’s lives as they grow up. The people that have gone through boys and girls club… it’s important that we provide this benefit to these kids and what we are able to provide Saturday night for your benefit… a little Christmas during these tough times.”

Officials with the boys and girls club say the money will be used for extended hour programs, so that kids can do their school work over the internet.

Rex and friends will be back on December 11, 2021, for another year of the trucker’s Christmas parade.
