EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)- It has been hard this year to find ways to celebrate the holidays in a safe way…but it seems like the Humboldt Fisherman’s Wives organization found the perfect way.

Many businesses, organizations and even cities in Humboldt County have had to find creative ways to help celebrate the holidays this year.

The Humboldt Fisherman’s Wives have found their way to spread some holiday cheer.

The non-profit organization, with the help of the coast guard, the local fire boat, the sheriff’s boat and the local fishing community, put together the salty Santa boat parade.

“We just thought this would be a great way to socially distance and still let kids, you know, see Santa and have them interaction with him,” said Cerise Ibach, the President of the Humboldt Fisherman’s Wives.

There were lots of people along the boardwalk in Eureka to watch the parade to see Santa and the decorative boats and the community was grateful to have the chance to enjoy such a unique event with their families.

“Just being able to spend the time with her with everything going on, her not being able to go to school and being able to get out and do all the other stuff that we typically do during Christmas,” said local spectator Carrie Spencer. “This is just a good way to spend some family time and spread some holiday cheer and tell everyone Merry Christmas.”

The fisherman’s wives were happy with the turn out of the boat parade and hope that this can be something that can continue.

“So much has been taken from these kids this year, this is just something new and fun and hopefully something that can continue on in years to come,” said Ibach.
