Spring semester for English Express starts soon

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)- For those looking at learning English or know of someone that would like to learn, there is a program that is offering free online English courses.

English Express is a non-profit program that has been offering English courses since 2016 but has had to move online because of the pandemic.

The program is starting their spring semester on January 19th, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm and 11am to 12pm on Thursdays.

“Ideally, we want them, as we stride to support them in creating the lives they envision, to be able to access all the support that they need and part of that support is of course, communication,” said Mary Ann Hytken, the program leader and English teacher for English Express. “As we know, it’s already hard enough to communicate when we do speak the same language let alone moving into a new community and not being that familiar with the language spoken.”

For those who want to join the classes but don’t have a computer, English Express is offering free Chromebooks to students that need them.
