Pause in administration of Moderna vaccines to delay Phase 1B of vaccination plan for Humboldt County

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Public Health Department halted the administration of a single lot of Moderna Covid-19 vaccines. Now, we’re learning more about what this means for the County’s vaccination plan.

As much as 90% of the vaccines the County has on hand were impacted, which is a total of 4,100 doses. Of those, 2,200 are first doses, and 1,900 of those are second doses

According to County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman, there will be some delays and those in phase 1B are going to be the group impacted the most. There are no plans to cancel any appointments that were already scheduled for this week, but roughly 1,000 or more will be delayed.

“It is a large majority of the vaccine that was supposed to go out this week. We’re trying to find local and state replacements, but it’s going to delay us, specifically the roll out to the 75 year and older that was planned to start this week,” Hoffman says. The Public Health Department will also be putting out an interest form for anyone in phase 1B who hasn’t been contacted by their primary care provider about receiving a vaccine.
