Open Door Health Clinic put on lockdown after patient disturbance

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — The Open Door Health Clinic in Eureka was put on lockdown Wednesday after a patient caused a disturbance.

According to the Eureka Police Department, the patient was upset over a prescription refill at the clinic on Buhne Street and made threats. For a brief time, EPD was standing by outside the clinic due to some miscommunication between employees and family that there was a possible active shooter. The scene was cleared once that was confirmed to not be the case.

“There was no active shooter. We heard rumors of a standoff, there was nothing like that actually happening. Sounds like just a miscommunication, but there was some kind of threat made to the location, so officers were there,” according to Public Information Officer Brittany Powell.

The patient returned home to Arcata and was detained by the Arcata Police Department.
