An Arcata home destroyed after a fire Friday morning

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) – A home was destroyed by a fire in Arcata on Friday. 

The Arcata Fire District responded to a report of an explosion and possible fire in a garage at the 900 block of Bayview. 

After an hour, the fire was put out with the help of 5 neighboring fire agencies, 34 firefighters, and 13 apparatus. 

Two occupants were inside the home at the time of the incident and were able to exit the structure. However, one of the occupants sustained minor burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

According to the Arcata Fire District, the fire was unintentional.

Fire chief Justin McDonald provided the family with immediate monetary aid through the California Fire Foundation’s SAVE Program.
